The preacher was giving a sermon in church, and to help the congregation to hear him better, he was wired for sound with a lapel microphone.
As he spoke, the preacher moved briskly about the platform, giving his sermon in an animated manner, jerking the microphone cord as he went.
Then he moved to one side, getting tangled up in the cord, and very nearly tripped before jerking it yet again.
After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered to her, “If he gets loose, will he hurt us?”
