A man died one day and found himself waiting in the long line of judgment outside the pearly gates.
As he stood there in line, he noticed that some souls were allowed to march right through the pearly gates into heaven. Others, though, were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning pit.
What really intrigued him, however, was that every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire, Satan would toss a soul off to one side into a small pile.
After watching Satan do this several times, the fellow’s curiosity got the best of him.
So, he strolled over and asked Satan what he was doing.
“Excuse me, Prince of Darkness”, he said, “I have been waiting in line for judgment and I couldn’t help wondering, why are you tossing those people aside instead of flinging them into the fires of hell with the others?”
“Ah, those…”, Satan said with a groan. “They’re all from the United Kingdom, they’re too wet to burn”.
Yes it’s been raining one heck of a lot lately in the UK. Feel free to substitute your favorite “wet place”, like Washington State for example. We all know how wet it can be in Seattle!
Actually, for those of us in the United Kingdom, did you know that the driest month in Suriname in South America has twice the rainfall of the wettest month in the UK. Hope that makes you feel just a bit better!
