It was a hot summer day and the Irish fisherman was lying lazily beside his boat on the beach, smoking a pipe.
A wealthy American businessman who was walking along the beach, couldn’t understand why the Irishman was just lying there doing nothing.
“Why aren’t you out fishing?” the American asked him.
“Because I have caught enough fish for the day”, the fisherman replied.
“Why don’t you catch some more?” the American asked.
“And what would I do with them?” said the Irishman.
“You could sell them and make more money” was the American’s reply. “With that you could have a motor fixed to your boat and go into deeper waters and catch more fish. Then, you would make enough money to buy nets. These would bring you even more fish and more money. Soon you would have enough money to own two boats, maybe even a fleet of boats. Then you would be a rich man like me”.
“What would I do then?” asked the fisherman.
“Then you could really take things easy and enjoy life” the American said.
“And what do you suppose I might be doing right now?” said the Irishman, smiling and puffing away on his pipe.
You definitely have to appreciate the Irish outlook on life. Why kill yourself working in pursuit of a dream that you probably already have by taking things at a slower pace.
