Murphy’s son Finan was returning from the local market, carrying a crate of chickens his father had entrusted to him.
All of a sudden, the crate fell to the ground, the door came open and the chickens went running off in different directions.
The young boy was mad at himself for dropping the crate, but he was determined to recapture all the chickens.
So, Finan fixed the crate, then walked all over the neighbourhood, searching for the chickens, scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired crate.
Hoping that he had found them all, the Finan reluctantly returned home, expecting the worst from his father, having nearly lost all the birds in the accident.
“Dad, the chickens got loose”, the young boy confessed to his father, “but I managed to find all twelve of them”.
“Well, you did real good Finan”, Murphy said with a big smile on his face, “you left the market with seven chickens”.
