Murphy was forced to take a day off from work to appear in court for a speeding offense after he got caught driving too fast by a traffic camera.

He grew increasingly restless as he waited for what seemed like one endless hour after another for his case to be heard.

Finally, his name was called late in the afternoon and he went into the court room.

Murphy stood before the judge, only to hear the judge say that court was going to be adjourned for the rest of the afternoon and he would have to return there the next day.

“What for?” Murphy snapped at the judge, furious that he had been kept waiting all day long and now he would have to come back tomorrow.

The judge, equally angry after having had a long and tedious, roared out at Murphy, “Twenty dollars for contempt of court! That’s why!”

The court room went silent, then the judge noticed that Murphy was checking his wallet.

The judge, feeling that maybe he shouldn’t have repremanded Murphy so badly, said “That’s all right. You don’t have to pay now”.

Murphy replied, “I know your honor, I was just seeing if I have enough for two more words”.
