An Irishman was running down a railway track when he noticed a train approaching from behind him.
He ran faster and faster, in fact he ran as fast as he could, probably faster than he had ever run before, but eventually the inevitable happened and the train caught up with him.
He woke up some hours later, to find himself in a hospital with four broken limbs.
When the nurse was treating his wounds, she asked him, “Paddy, why didn’t you just run up the embankment to avoid the train?”
“You stupid woman”, retorted Paddy. “If I couldn’t beat the train on the flat, how could I beat it running uphill?”
