The slave master on the Roman galley stared down at his slaves who were rowing the Trireme across the sea and yelled at them: “Right you horrible lot, listen up. I have some good news for you, and some bad news”.
The slaves went quiet, as they knew that all news, even good news was likely to be bad news.
The slave master continued, “The good news is that you’ll be getting double rations tonight.”
The mumbling of the happy slaves was interrupted by the bellowing of the slave master, as he continued with the rest of the news.
“The bad news is that the commander’s son wants to water ski.”.
