When Paddy’s lawn mower broke down and wouldn’t work, his wife, Siobhan, kept hinting to him that he should get it fixed as the grass on their lawn was starting to get really long.
Somehow though, Paddy always had something else to take care of. First it was his truck, then the car, going fishing etc. There was always something more important for Paddy to do. Meanwhile, Paddy’s lawn mower remained broken and the grass just kept growing longer and longer.
The garden was becoming a right old mess, between the long grass and the weeds, but finally, Siobhan thought of a clever way in which she could make her point to her husband.
When Paddy arrived home one day after a day fishing, he found his wife out in the garden, seated in the middle of the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors.
Her husband watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.
He was gone only a few minutes and when he came out again he handed her a toothbrush.
“When you finish cutting the grass”, Paddy said, “you might as well sweep the sidewalk”.
The doctors say that Paddy will walk again, but he will always have a limp.
A final thought: Marriage is a relationship in which one person is always right and in this case it certainly wasn’t Paddy.
