Coffin Wood Fueling Italian Pizza Parlours

Investigators in the Napoli area of Southern Italy are investigating cases where a number of smaller pizza shops hay have been using the wood from funeral caskets to keep their ovens going.

The local graveyard has been a well known target for thieves over the years, but now it seems that graves are being dug up so that the valuable wood of the coffins can be harvested, pizza traditionally being cooked in an oak-fired oven.

As horrible and absurd as this seems, there are two solutions to the situation here.

The first and more traditional solution is for the police to track down the grave robbers and to put an end to their plundering. This would however also be likely to also put an end to the pizza business for many of the restaurateurs who are struggling to make ends meet.

The second and more radical solution would be to encourage more cremations rather than burials, and incorporate crematorium facilities in a number of pizza restaurants. This way, not only can the family be present to pay their respects to deceased family members, the usual gathering of family and friends can take place on the same site, with pizza cooked from the fires of their loved one. What more fitting send off could you have I wonder.

Robot Marries Japanese Couple

A robot called i-Fairy officiated over the wedding of a couple at a ceremony in Tokyo this week.

The robot, which stands four feet tall and has colourful flashing eyes, was the first of it’s kind to perform such a ceremony.

This model of robot is usually used to escort visitors around museums and exhibitions, but this is the first time that it has been used to conduct a wedding.

Sorry, but I much prefer a real person performing tasks such as this. I wonder if the first dance the couple did together was to the Styx song “Mr. Roboto”…

Britons Spend Months Discussing The Weather

Well we do don’t we, with typical greetings such as “lovely weather for the time of year”.

Apparently many of us spend a good six months of our lives discussing the weather, according to a new survey by an insurance company. Well fancy that!

58% of us use it as an ice breaker when starting a conversation, and I know that I do and have done for many years, in fact as long as I can remember. Before that, I just didn’t say anything because I didn’t know what to say.

Since the British weather is often unpredictable, well mostly unpredictable actually, despite what the weather man says, the weather often turns out completely different.

Voyager Glitch Brings Alien Theories

These are the voyages of Voyager (aptly named), to go where no man has been before (well not in thousands of years at least as far as we know).

Launched in 1977, the Voyager spacecraft has been transmitting signals back to earth ever since, and is now well beyond the extremities of our solar system.

In the last week however, something happened and the transmissions became garbled.

It could be aliens at work, or more than likely just a faulty component on a 30 year old computer system.

Let’s face it, 30 years ago the original IBM PC was soon to be launched, and electronic circuitry was just advancing from the transistor stage. If something went wrong, it ought not to be surprising.

What would be surprising would be a later spacecraft carrying on board a computer powered by Microsoft that was still running after 30 years! More than likely, a few months into the mission, the computer would come up with the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

One thing is for certain, they can’t have it turn around and bring it in for a service…
