Murphy had been working as retail clerk in Dublin for a few months and he was suffering from aching feet.
“It’s all those years of standing up”, his doctor declared. “You need a holiday Murphy. Go up to Donegal and soak your feet in the ocean and you’ll feel better”.
So, Murphy packed his things and headed off to Donegal.
When he arrived, he went into a hardware store, bought two large buckets and headed off to the beach.
“How much for two buckets of that seawater?”, he asked the lifeguard.
“One euro a bucket”, the fellow replied with a straight face.
Murphy paid the lifeguard the money, filled his buckets, took them back to his hotel room and soaked his feet.
They felt so much better, he decided to repeat the treatment again that afternoon.
Down at the beach, Murphy handed the lifeguard two euros.
The young man took the money and said, “Help yourself”.
Murphy started for the water, then stopped in amazement. The tide was out and it was practically half a mile to the waters edge!
“Wow”, he said, turning to the lifeguard. “Some business you got here!”
