I guess that this may come as a surprise to those of you who don’t live in Las Vegas, but surprisingly enough, there are actually more catholic churches in Las Vegas than there are casinos.
Given the number of gamblers in Las Vegas as any given time, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that some worshipers at Sunday services hand over give casino chips rather than cash when the collection basket is passed around the congregation during the Sunday service.
Since the members of the congregation get their chips from many different casinos in the city, trying to organize these in order to collect the money used to be a challenge, however the Las Vegas churches have devised a unoque method to collect the offerings.
The churches all send their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting.
Then, once the chips have been sorted, they are taken to the casino of origin and cashed in.
This important task is undertaken by the chip monks.
