Hospital regulations in the hospital where I work as a student nurse, require that a wheelchair is used for patients when they are being discharged.
One day, I found an elderly gentleman, who was already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet.
The gentleman insisted that he didn’t need my help to leave the hospital, however after a chat with him about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.
On the way down in the elevator, I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
“I don’t know”, he replied, “She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.”
I’m pretty sure this must have happened in real life at least once, especially if a nurse was insistant.
