A grocer put up a sign outside his store that read “Eggplants. 25 cents each or three for a dollar”.
All day long, customers came in exclaiming, “That is ridiculous! I should get four eggplants for a dollar!”
Meekly the grocer gave in and packaged four eggplants for them.
The tailor who ran the shop next door had been watching what was going on all day.
Late in the afternoon his curiosity got the better of him and he went over to the grocery store and asked the grocer, “Aren’t you going to fix the mistake on your sign?”
“What mistake?” the grocer asked. “Before I put up that sign no one ever bought more than one eggplant at a time”.
