It was a boiling hot summer day and Johnny and Henry were working hard digging a ditch, which in that heat as you might imagine was hard work.
Meanwhile, Roger was sat under the shade of a tree sipping on a cool drink and watching them.
Johnny asked Henry, “Why are we down here digging in the hot sun while Roger is up there sitting in the shade of the tree where it’s cool?”
Henry said, “I don’t know, I’ll go ask him”.
So Henry went up and asked Roger, “Why are you up here in the shade drinking a cool drink while Johnny and I are in the ditch digging in the hot sun?”
Roger replied, “That because I’ve got smarts”.
“What’s that then? asked Henry.
Roger puts his hand in front of the tree and said, “Hit my hand as hard as you can”.
So Henry swung his fist at Roger’s hand.
Roger quickly moved his hand away and Henry’s hit the tree, hurting his hand.
Roger said, “I knew to pull my hand away, that’s called having smarts”.
So Henry went back to the ditch and Johnny asked, “What did he say?”
Henry replied, “Roger said its because he has smarts”.
“What’s that then? Johnny asked.
Henry put his hand in front of his face and said, “Hit my hand!”
