William and Howard were two college students in New York City.
One day, they were riding the subway on their way to college, when a beggar approached them and asked for spare change.
William adamantly rejected the man in disgust.
Howard, on the other hand, whipped out his wallet, pulled out a couples of singles and gladly handed them over to the beggar with a smile.
The beggar thanked him kindly and then continued on to the other passengers in the subway car.
William was outraged by his friend’s act of generosity.
“What on earth did you do that for?” shouted William. “You know he’s only going to use it on drugs or booze.”
Howard replied, “I know William and we weren’t?”
