Two British Gas company servicemen, one a senior training supervisor and the other a young trainee, were out checking the gas meters in a residential area of a small town.
They parked their truck at the end of the road and worked their way to the other end, checking the gas meters as they went.
At the last house in the road, an elderly woman was looking out her kitchen window, watching the two men as they checked her gas meter.
After they finished checking the last meter, the senior supervisor challenged his younger trainee to a race down the road back to the truck, to prove that an older man could outrun a younger one.
As they came running up to their truck at the other end of the road, they realised that the old lady from that last house was huffing and puffing along right behind them.
They stopped and asked her what was wrong.
Gasping for breath, she replied, “When I see two gas men running as hard as you two were, I figured I’d better run for my life too!”
