In the hospital, where their family member lay gravely ill, the relatives gathered in the waiting room, anticipating the latest update from the doctors.
Finally, the doctor came into the waiting room and he looked very tired and had a somber look on his face.
“I’m afraid I am the bearer of bad news”, the doctor said as he looked around the room at the worried faces of the family. “The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It’s an experimental procedure and it’s rather risky”.
The family comtemplated what to do and the doctor added, “the only other thing is, that you will have to pay for the brain yourselves”.
Well, the family members all sat silent as they absorbed the news and tried to figure out what they should do.
At length, someone asked the doctor, “Well doctor, how much does a brain cost?”
The doctor quickly responded, “A brain will cost you $2,000 for a female brain and $5,000 for a male brain”.
This really surprised the family and for a moment things looked like they might turn awkward as the men and women looked at each other.
The men in the room tried not to smile and avoiding eye contact with the women, but some actually smirked at the fact that a man’s brain cost more than a woman’s brain.
One girl, who was unable to control her curiosity any longer, blurted out the question that everyone in the room wanted to ask, “Why is the male brain so much more expensive?”
The doctor smiled at her childish innocence and then to the entire group said, “It’s our standard pricing procedure. We have to mark the female brains down in price, because they’ve been used”.
