Two old men who were in their 80’s had been best friends for many years and had played golf together for most of their lives.
When it was clear that Charlie was dying, Daniel went to visit his best friend every day in the old folks home where they both now lived.
One day, Daniel said, “Charlie, we both loved playing golf all our lives and we started playing golf soon after we left high school. Please do me one favor my dear friend. When you get to heaven, somehow you must let me know if there’s golf there”.
Charlie looked up at Daniel from his deathbed and said, “Daniel, you’ve been my best friend for many years. If it’s at all possible, I’ll do this favor for you”.
Just a couple of days after that, sadly, his best friend Charlie died.
A few weeks later, Daniel was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to him, “Daniel, Daniel”.
“Who is it”, asked Daniel, sitting up in bed suddenly. “Who is it?”
“Daniel — it’s me, Charlie”.
“You’re not Charlie. Charlie just died”.
“I’m telling you, it’s me, Charlie”, insisted the voice.
“Charlie, Where are you?” Daniel asked.
“I’m in heaven”, replied Charlie. “I have some really good news for you and a little bad news as well”.
“Tell me the good news first Charlie”, said Daniel.
“The good news”, Charlie said with joy and enthusiasm, “is that there is golf in heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before me are here too. Even better than that, we’re all young again. Better still, it’s always Summertime and it never rains and best of all, we can play golf all we want and we never get tired. You know what? We also get to play with all the great golfers of the past as well”.
“That’s fantastic, absolutely amazing”, said Daniel. “It’s beyond my wildest dreams! So what’s the bad news?”
Charlie replied, “You’re in my foursome this Saturday”.
